According to the tombstone of Green Wilcox, his birth date computed to be February 22, 1798 on Ancestry.com. Both Green and Sarah are buried in Lauramie Missionary Baptist Cemetery, Sheffield Township, Tippecanoe Co., Indiana.

A certified copy of the Wilcox Family Bible birth page was sent to Michelle "Shelley" Block by Harry Elwood Wilcox, son of Fredric Oliver Wilcox. It is uncertain who made the entries on the Bible page but they were probably done by Lorana (Prather) Furrow Wilcox, Harry's grandmother. Green Wilcox is shown on the birth page as being born on February 22, 1788.

In "Westerly Births and Deaths," page 74, Greene Wilcox is shown as being born on February 21, 1798. Since this is a recorded vital record, I have chosen to use this date for Green's birthdate.

OBITUARY (original clipping was in possession of Wilmer A. Clark (now deceased), grandson of William Wilcox; newspaper unknown):

William Wilcox was born in the state of Ohio, August 24, 1824. During his childhood his parents moved to the state of Ind. where he grew to manhood. He united with the Baptist church when about 25 yrs. of age, of which he remained a member until about 5 years ago, he united with the Congregationalists, of which he held a letter in good standing at the time of his death. He moved from Wisconsin to Kiowa County, Kans., March 23, 1899, died October 18, 1900, age 76 years 1 month and 24 days. He leaves a wife, 8 children, grandchildren, 2 sisters, a brother and a host of relatives and friends to mourn his loss. Mr. Wilcox has been a constant sufferer for years and for the last 5 months has been helpless. He has generally borne his suffering with patience, and will be greatly missed by those who had most care and best acquaintance with him. The many friends of the relatives of Mr. Wilcox in this county extend their sympathy to them in their sad bereavement.

Notes for LORANA PRATHER:

According to Lorana Prather Furrow Wilcox's death certificate, she was "killed by train." The informant on her death certificate was her son, M. E. Furrow, of Eugene, Oregon.

Obituary - newspaper unknown:

Lorana Prather was born near Terre Haute, Indiana, November 9, 1838, and died near Eugene, Oregon July 15, 1914. During childhood her parents moved to Illinois where she was raised. In 1855 she was united in marriage to Mathias Furrow. To this union was born four children. Her husband dying she was married July 10, 1865, to William Wilcox. To this union was born six children. Mr. Wilcox died October 18, 1900. Four children dying in infancy, one, Mrs. Jas. L. Hainey dying at the age of 22 years. She is survived by two step-daughters, Mrs. A. P. Lawrence of Clay Center, Kansas, and Mrs. Joseph Hatfield of Nebraska. Five children, William T. Furrow, of Delaware, Oklahoma; Mrs. S. D. Clark, Weyerhauser, Wisconsin; Fred O. Wilcox, Island Lake, Wisconsin; M. E. Furrow and Mrs. Harry Elliott, of Eugene. A number of grandchildren and great grandchildren, numerous relatives and a host of friends. Early in life, she accepted Jesus as her savior and faithfully followed in His footsteps during the remainder of her life. She came to Oregon twelve years ago uniting with the Christian church at Pleasant Hill, afterward transferring her membership to the First Christian Church, Eugene. She was ever a self-sacrificing kind, and loving mother, a good neighbor and friend. The funeral was held at Gordon & Veatch chapel, Friday, July 17, at 10 a.m., Rev. H. W. Davis, pastor of the First Baptist Church, Eugene, conducting the services with internment in the Mulkey Cemetery.

The original obituary was in the possession of Wilmer A. Clark (now deceased), grandson of Lorana Prather Furrow Wilcox, and a poor xerox copy is in the possession of Shelley Block, 61 Murray Hill Drive, Bluffton, SC 29909-6139. After Wilmer Clark's death, all obituaries and photographs were lost.

Funeral Rites Held for Fred Wilcox

Former Island Lake Man Dies at Wild Rose Hospital Wednesday

Fred Wilcox, former resident of the Island Lake vicinity, died Wednesday of last week at the Wild Rose hospital, after an illness there of four days, according to his sister, Mrs. Alice Clark, of Ladysmith. Death was due to heart trouble, with which he had been afflicted for the past several years. He was 66. Mr. and Mrs. Wilcox had spent the fall and winter months at Wild Rose with a daughter, Mrs. Paige Nichols.

Funeral services were held last Friday at Bayfield, where the Wilcox family had made their home for the past 15 years. Attending the funeral from Ladysmith were Mrs. Clark, Mr. and Mrs. Carl E. Nelson and E. Wilson.

Mr. Wilcox was born in Kansas, and at the age of seven came to Wisconsin with his parents. After his marriage in Richland County he returned for a time to Kansas, returning later to Wisconsin and taking over the Island Lake farm now owned by William Mahoney.

Besides his widow and sister, he is survived by one son, Harry, and a daughter, Mrs. Joseph (Margie) Senzig, of Lansing, Mich.; a daughter, Mrs. Nellie Nichols, Wild Rose; and another sister, Mrs. Blanche Elliott, of Eugene, Ore. Another son, Glen, died several years ago in Ohio.
